The Dije =
Creating invigorating Jewish Experiences which live on in the hearts and minds of King Davidians for years to come
The Dije seeks to make Judaism intriguing, enjoyable and relevant to all King Davidians. We work to create invigorating Jewish experiences both in and outside of the classroom.Throughout the school year we run various in-school programs, weekend getaways (shabbaton) and a weeklong seminar for grade 11 students. All of these are creatively designed and brought to life by a dynamic team of energetic educators.
The Dije is an vibrant part of campus life. Inside the classroom, we bring Torah texts and ideas to life through ‘real world conversation’, engaging content and chavruta style (peer driven) learning. Outside of class, we run break events that celebrate Jewish festivals in fun and refreshing ways. Our Primary School Team are brilliant at creating interactive and imaginative learning experiences for younger students during break, before school and during class.
The Dije hubs based at each school have become an oasis for the students, a place where they connect to the Dije team and grab a cup of hot chocolate while they are at it.
Fall in love with Shabbat… The Dije run an annual Shabbaton for grades six till ten across all schools.
Shabbat creates an opportunity for us to pause – so that we can turn away from the noise of the week and connect to those around us as well as the world within. Our experience tells us that learning and having lots of fun go very well together. We love to sing, dance and even get a bit silly on Shabbaton. Its these very moments that create an unforgetable experiences. The Shabbatons are generally out of Johannesburg at various lodges and resorts in Gauteng, which create holiday-like vibe imbued with meaning.
Some would call Encounter the highlight of a King David student’s school career. Encounter is a week long seminar for both the Grade 11’s of KD Linksfield and KD Victory Park. It is a powerful Jewish learning journey, with major emphasis on intriguing content, captivating speakers and fantatsic group bonding. We believe you either need to have gone on Encounter to understand, or ask someone who went how it was for them to fully get the magic of Encounter!
